Praying for you

Website praying for you
Each month, we choose another couple of roads. A small group of folk from Olton Baptist Church are slowly working their way around Olton by showing up on the second Sunday morning of the month and praying for a two or three roads. If this month we might be coming down your road, you’ll receive a card through your door telling you that we are praying for your road. So do look out for us – we’ll be the odd looking bunch walking slowly along the road, posting cards and stopping from time to time. If you want to let us know about anything you want prayer for, please email some details to us:

Offering Sanctuary

Website offering sanctuary
Over a number of years, we have been delighted to offer a welcome and a place of belonging within the life of our church to an increasing number of asylum seekers and refugees. In addition to befriending asylum seekers through our Crossing Points allotment project, we have a number of links with local organisations offering support. Believing that ‘welcoming the stranger’ is a biblical imperative, and wishing to join the prophetic voices that are currently seeking to change the language and offer a different approach regarding those who come to Britain looking for a sanctuary from persecution back home, we agreed as a church recently to sign up to the Birmingham Declaration. This is a statement expressing concern for the plight of asylum seekers and refugees across the country that emerged from the national Sanctuary Summit held in Birmingham in November 2014. The full text of the declaration can be found here, but it includes the following:

“Britain has a long tradition of offering protection to those fleeing persecution, many of whom have gone on to make a considerable contribution to our society. It also has a reputation for fairness and justice that is the envy of many other nations. We commit ourselves to work together to ensure that our great country continues to be a safe place for those fleeing persecution and a welcoming place for all people who come here to study, work or join family and who will work alongside us to build a just and fair society.”

Sunday Out

Website Sunday Out

Every second Sunday of the month, instead of finding us at our usual location at Langley School, we can be found out and about in Olton, serving the community in a number of different ways from litter picking to hymn singing with care home residents, from joining other allotment holders at the Gospel Lane allotments to meeting with neighbours for brunch. It is proving to be a great way to build a network of contacts in the community, and is also strengthening the relationships we have with each other. If you want to know more about what we do for Sunday Out, please see our Explorer Group page, or contact the church office.
